Learning Connections Report
'Learning Connections' researches and surveys Schools and Departments of Architecture and the Built environment that are actively engaging with children and young people through various outreach programmes.
Despite having a deep connection to their own neighbourhoods, young people’s voices are often absent from discussions and decisions concerning urban design whilst creative subjects are increasingly marginalised from the school curriculum.
“Embedding outreach programmes within architectural education is essential – it shapes empathetic, socially engaged designers who understand that meaningful architecture begins by truly listening to and collaborating with young people and local communities. I’ve found this direct engagement vital, informing key decisions and lessons learned across academia and professional practice.
This isn’t simply ‘good practice’ – it’s how architecture remains relevant and responsive in the future. “ Dhruv Gulabchande, Narrative Practice
The goal of this report is therefore to shine a spotlight on the Schools and Departments of Architecture that are already leading the way in this area, highlighting their efforts, successes, and the positive impacts they are having whilst encouraging others to do so.
