About the IFG Awards
The 2022 IFG Awards are now open. Deadline for submissions Monday 31st October with The Winners announced on Tuesday 15th November 2022.
Open to practitioners, built environment professionals and the private/public sector, the Inspire Future Generations Awards aim to recognise people and initiatives globally that have been working with children and young people - helping them to engage in and advocate for a better built environment. They’re the first awards of their kind for all built environment professionals in the UK.
Winning entries will need to demonstrate how they have made a tangible impact on closing the gap between architecture and education, through activity, collaboration or research.
Successful initiatives, organisations and individuals will need to show how they have encouraged children and young people to engage in and advocate for a better built environment, and will demonstrate best practice and innovation.
This year a number of new categories have been created specifically for practices and local authorities.
The FAQ gives other important information and also set out the guidelines for judging. Awards are free or low-cost and easy to enter, and the individual of the year award carries a £500 prize.

Informal Learning Activity
Activities/events/festivals that explore architecture as a creative learning tool /co-design outside of the traditional structure of school. These can be aimed at children and teenagers, taking place once only, annual or as an ongoing initiative.
Youth Engagement Programme
Longer-term projects with a focus on developing young people’s design skills and awareness. Projects could involve range of stakeholders - local authorities, housing associations, youth centres, developers and practices, alongside young people and own organisation. We also welcome submissions from programmes exploring issues such as public space, community, well-being and regeneration.
Diversity in Action
Inclusive initiatives that represent young people of specific communities and responding to their particular concerns and needs.

Research
There is surprisingly little academic/cultural research in the field of engaging children and young people in the built environment. This category will recognise excellence and encourage further research.
Online Resource
This category welcomes applications from resources that may be purely digital, or analogue activities that are accessed online.
FE/HE initiatives
Private and public sector organisations pioneering transformative ways of approaching youth engagement or architecture education. This award is also open to architectural education organisations demonstrating considerable impact and best practice through their programmes.
